This session is targeted to Children and Families social workers with a lesser experience of the permanence process for children.


The introduction to permanence training aims to is to introduce the concept of permanence, and why it matters.

Key objectives:

  • Increase knowledge of the legislative and policy framework and available permanence options.
  • Enhance skills to create child-centred permanence plans.
  • Promote early intervention to achieve better outcomes for children ensuring they have a secure, stable, and loving family.
  • To encourage the placement of children with prospective long-term carers at the earliest possible opportunity, reducing the negative impact of delays in decision-making.
  • To provide opportunities for reflection on best practices, research findings, and the experiences of other carers and professionals to improve permanence planning and support.


The session will run 9.30am - 4.30pm both days. You must attend both days.
