Event description
Explore the earliest origins of textiles and try a range of techniques inspired by archaeological examples.

About this event

Explore the earliest origins of textiles and try a range of techniques. Over the day, attendees will be discussing the nature of the evidence, making cordage with flax, nettle and lime bast, creating sewing needles in bone, wood or antler, learning to make braided and loop structured textiles inspired by archaeological examples.

If time allows, there will be opportunities to try netting, sprang, backstrap weaving or twining to suit particular interests.

Sally Pointer has a degree in Archaeology & Old English, and a C&G in Training and Education. She spent over a decade managing a hands-on gallery for the National Museum Wales, and went freelance in 2010 to pursue her interests in heritage education. She is the author of books on the history of cosmetics, herbs, and costume and is also a knitwear designer.
