You will be shown two techniques: Lino and Drypoint, choosing one to explore for the rest of the workshop. It's the perfect class for creative enthusiasts, beginners or someone wanting to learn a little more about printmaking.

What are the different techniques of printing that I will be learning?

Drypoint involves scratching an image into a thin plastic or metal sheet using a range of metal tools. The lines that are made are then filled with ink and transferred onto paper.

Lino printmaking is what we in the business call 'relief' printing and works in the opposite way to drypoint.

You will work by cutting away everything but the image, then ink the outlying surface, and print onto paper.

What experience do I need?

You can be a complete beginner or already have experience. Our tutor will take you step by step on all processes.

What will I go home with?

You will leave with your own hand-made prints as well as the technical skills and knowledge to continue your artwork beyond the workshop.

Do I have to bring any materials?

Please bring along some reference photos and ideas of designs you may want to do. If you would like to trace these photos please bring A6 size images. We provide all materials including tools, inks, rollers, plates, plastic and paper. Bringing an apron is recommended.

How many people are in a workshop?

Due to COVID we are following all guidelines with a maximum of 6 people within one workshop.

Will everyone be socially distanced?

Yes, we are ensuring everyone is socially distanced when sitting in their seat.

Tutor: Ben Hendy

Ben was elected into the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, one of the world’s premier printmaking organisations.

His work focuses on ordinary surfaces and materials, investigating textures that tend to be overlooked as uninteresting or characterless. Printmaking is often combined with bookbinding techniques, influenced by a keen interest in Book Arts. Ben is an active member of the Society of Bookbinders and is the organiser of their International Bookbinding Competition.

Recent awards include the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists Print Prize, The Heatherley School of Fine Art Open Studio Prize, and the Printmaking Today Artist’s Eye Prize."

If you wish to cancel a workshop or course due to take place within the next 14 days, you will not be entitled to a refund, or to reschedule your booking. We will however open the place(s) back up on our website, and if rebooked, you will be able to reschedule for another time.

If you wish to cancel with more than 14 days notice, you will be able to reschedule your booking for a future date, or a refund can be given.
