Description

Introduction:

This course is part of a wider programme of investment to support skills development for staff in local businesses. The investment aims to address skills shortages and courses have been identified through consultation with businesses and industry bodies. Delegates must be Entitled or Entitled for work*

Target audience:

Aimed at delegates from any industry who are new to project management, or who have some experience and are beginning to manage or work on projects more regularly

Course content:

  • Understanding the benefits of project management for organisations, and the barriers to effective project management.
  • Defining a project: what it is and what it is not. Understanding the role of project management methodologies, including Prince2 and Agile project management.
  • Exploring project roles and responsibilities, and considering the needs of project stakeholders.
  • Understanding the role of a project manager and assessing the personal skills needed to perform the role effectively.
  • Structuring a project for success: starting a project, running a project and closing a project. Understanding project terms and documents.
  • An overview of key project management tools, including business case, time and cost estimation, project scheduling, risk management and work breakdown structure.
  • Personal development planning for effective project management skills.

Course details:

    • Delegates should report to the Professional Studies Centre, which is on the Highlands College Campus behind the Highlands cafe (adjacent to a grass playing field and car park).
    • It is best accessed by using the St Saviours Hill entrance.
    • When you enter the Professional studies centre, the screen will state the room the course is in.
    • Parking is available on site. Delegates who are travelling by car should arrive by 08:45am in order to locate a parking space. The workshop tutor will give you a parking permit when you arrivae at the session.

    • Tea, coffee, water and biscuits will be available throughout the day. Lunch is not provided. Delegates should either bring a packed lunch or can use the Highlands College canteen, which is located within short walking distance (2 minutes) from the Professional Studies Centre
