Introduction to Project Planning for PGRs

Session outline/ plan
This ONLINE session is an opportunity to explore a selection of key aspects relating to project management for you as a researcher. You will have the opportunity to work on your own project or to bring a potential project for the future to work on to ensure the training is placed within your own research context.
We will broadly cover the themes of
- Project organisation and management
- Project planning
- Project delivery
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Apply project management principles to research projects: Participants will gain a basic understanding of project management concepts and how they can be effectively applied in the context of research projects. They will be able to identify key elements necessary for successful project organisation and management.
- Develop comprehensive project plans: Participants will learn how to create detailed project plans, outlining clear objectives, timelines, and resource allocation.
- Implement effective project delivery strategies: Participants will learn how to monitor project progress, track milestones, and make necessary adjustments to ensure projects stay on track.
- Tailor project management techniques to individual research contexts: Participants will have the opportunity to apply the workshop's teachings to their own research projects or future ideas. By doing so, they will learn how to adapt project management techniques to suit their specific research needs and challenges, fostering a deeper understanding of the subject matter.
Presenter information:
Dr Katy Mahoney
With over two decades of experience supporting researchers and academics, Dr Katy Mahoney has a profound understanding of the unique challenges faced by early career researchers. She is a specialist in researcher performance and development, accredited by the CPD Standards Office. Katy’s coaching style is known for its blend of humour, storytelling, and heartfelt reassurance, helping clients navigate their professional roles with confidence and resilience. Katy has a PhD in Human Geography, and is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
This ONLINE session is available to research staff from the University of Liverpool. When registering for this event please ensure you use your University email address as non-University email registrations will be removed due to capacity restrictions, thank you.
Joining details will be sent 2 days and 2 hours before the session begins to the email address you registered with.
Please note - if you are unable to attend, you can register to be sent the resources from the session only by choosing a non-attending ticket.
