About this event

In this research-informed session, we will introduce the Reading Schools programme; highlight the importance of reading for pleasure; share our journey so far; and explain how you can get involved. We'll also have an external speaker presenting on their experiences with the Reading Schools programme and providing inspiration for you to get started.

These sessions are recommended for Head/Depute/Principal Teachers or Literacy Leads/Champions and other interested learning professionals to give an overview to bring back to their school. This session will be held on Microsoft Teams, with meeting details and a link to access shared in advance.

Reading Schools is a national accreditation programme for schools that are committed to building a reading culture with and for their learners and communities. Research indicates that reading for pleasure positively impacts on learners' attainment across the curriculum, supports wellbeing, critical thinking, creativity, empathy and resilience.

NB: We have two self-directed e-learning modules containing curated elements to help give programme participants the relevant knowledge to commence and achieve their Reading Schools accreditation. These can be found here.
