Event description
This event will explain the principles of moorland management, focusing on controlling water and natural flood management.

About this Event

Managing the flow of water within the landscape is vital to restoring a healthy blanket bog, reducing wildfire risk, Natural Flood Management and drinking water quality. The hydrology has a direct effect on what plants and animals will inhabit it.

The event will explain the principles of moorland management; primarily focused on controlling water in the context of restoring a habitat and Natural Flood Management. Looking at designs and structures of small dams in an upland environment. It will also include a practical session on site where you will install small dams on Marsden Moor.

This is aimed at anyone interested in, new to or currently with a moorland management based role including; rangers, wardens, site managers, project officers, project managers, reserve offices or anyone interested in learning the basic principles of moorland restoration.

A large part of the day will be outside in the moors in an exposed environment – please come with warm, waterproof clothing and suitable footwear.

Please bring your own packed lunch and water/drink.
