Introduction To Sailing
Overview
Welcome to Introduction to Sailing!
This introductory programme is designed for adults (age 16+) with little or no sailing experience who would like to get out on the water and try sailing alongside our club members. The programme consists of three Saturday morning sessions, each lasting approximately two hours. A single booking covers all three dates:
Saturdays 16th, 23rd and 30th May
Across the sessions we will cover:
- Understanding how a sailboat moves and how to sail in different directions
- How to rig and set up a keelboat
- Basic safety awareness and the “rules of the road”
- Practical time on the water helming and crewing a keelboat
Each session will take place on members’ privately owned boats. All skippers are club volunteers, and the participation fee goes directly to the club to support running costs, not to any individual. Boats will have one experienced volunteer sailor with two participants, providing plenty of opportunity for hands-on involvement.
There will also be an optional opportunity to crew in the afternoon (approximately 13:00–17:00) to practise skills and gain additional time on the water.
All dates are weather-dependent. In the event of unsuitable or extreme weather, sessions may be postponed for safety reasons.
