About this event

Led by reknowned acting teacher Paul Harvard, thi intensive Screen Acting course is open to all professional actors and actors in training.

Develop the skills, knowledge and technique needed to deliver top-level screen performances. The weekly filming sessions will aim to mirror the intensity and discipline of working on set, so you can develop the confidence and resilience needed to deliver great acting performances in front of the camera. For those new to screen acting, key fundamentals such as hitting your mark, continuity and adjusting your performance for different sizes of shot will be explored.

This is a developmental course, so you are advised to book in for all five sessions. However, for those with more experience in front of the camera, you can use the sessions as a weekly drop-in around your professional work to maintain and develop your screen acting skills.

Our approach to screen acting synthesises exercises from some of the greatest practitioners, including Stanislavski, Meisner, Hagen, Adler, Laban and Katie Mitchell - whilst incorporating practical tips and advice from renowned screen actors and filmmakers.

Actors who have at Collective in the last three years have worked in Hollywood films, on Broadway, for the National Theatre, in the West End and in series for Netflix, HBO, BBC, ITV and Channel 4.

We are passionate about working with actors from underrepresented groups and we will always seek to break down barriers to access in professional actor-training. Scholarships are available for those who are facing challenging circumstances. If you want to learn more about how to apply, email reception@collectiveactingstudio.co.uk

Testimonials:

'I was working in the West End before I graduated and I genuinely felt more prepared and ready to utilise my skills having been trained by staff from Collective. I was able to pick up a script and know instantly what to do and how to navigate it. I felt strong and confident with my actor's process and knew exactly how to tackle the industry as an actor and an artist. I have Paul to thank for that.'

Louis Sparks, Actor - Masters of the Air (produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks)

'The staff from Collective genuinely care for the well-being of all of their students, they want to see you win! They're driven to give actors from underrepresented backgrounds a voice and that’s what we need more of in our industry. So if you’re an actor, a performer, a creative who wants to create their own work and give a voice to the voiceless, joining the Collective is the best thing you could do for yourself.'

Seyan Sarvan, Actor - Channel 4's It's A Sin

'It’s only until you’ve had a chance to see what else is out there, both professionally and academically, it becomes very clear that your learning with Collective is special and there’s no other place to train like this.'

Segun Fawole, Actor - West End productions of A Chorus Line and Motown

'It's impossible to list all the things I've learnt from Paul because there are just too many! Paul not only teaches students to be actors, but theatre-makers, professionals – brilliant humans with ideas and dreams and fires in their bellies.'

Phoebe Rhodes, Director - Young Vic Creators Program
