Our Introduction to Silver Art Clay Workshop is taught by our in house tutor, Steph Gibbs who is a certified level 1 tutor in Silver Art Clay.

What is Silver Art clay?

It is a clay made with recycled pure silver, water and an organic binder. This allows the clay to be easily formed and moulded into wonderful unique pieces of jewellery. Once clay is fired you are left with pure silver which can be filed and sanded to produce a high shine.

What will you learn in the class?

Steph will talk you through what the different types of clay are and their uses. She’ll also demonstrate each process involved in working with Silver art clay. From getting started right through to moulding, shaping, drying, firing and finishing. This is a perfect class for anyone wanting to get to grips with silver art clay or those looking to further their jewellery making skills. It’s a wonderful material and allows you to create fantastic textures.

No prior experience is required for our introduction to Silver Art Clay workshop; Steph is on hand throughout the whole day to answer all you questions.

What will you make and what is included?

During the workshop you will be given approximately 5g of clay to create textured charms or a pendant. Approximately 5g of paste clay to create a leaf pendant. As well as 7-10g of clay to create a ring, which will be decorated with paste from a syringe or moulding clay. The shop kiln will be used to fire all the pieces created in the class. During this time Steph will also talk about alternative ways to fire your pieces at home. As well as demonstrate firing with a hand held torch. Everything you make in the class is yours to take away with you.

Refreshments are provided throughout the workshop. We will break for an hour at lunch time, you are welcome to bring a packed lunch with you to eat in the workshop room. There are also lots of café and shops locally to buy lunch.
