In the 1980's Steve de Shazer developed a radically different approach to doing therapy. Solution-Focused Therapy is based on two very simple ideas.
Rather than trying to understand and fix problems, solution-focused therapy works by exploring in detail what a client would like as an outcome when the problem is solved.
Then it helps identify the possible resources and strengths that the client already has for attaining that future.
Many therapists and clients find solution-focused positive and radically different; it looks for resources rather than deficits and explore possible futures rather than reinforcing pasts, it looks at what the client is already doing to bring about those futures.
The training day will introduce the basics of Solution-Focused Therapy. It will explain the SFT model and help attendees develop useful skills.
The workshop will be run by James Rye. James has an MA in Counselling, a Postgraduate Certificate in Supervision, and has completed a course at the Solution-Focused Brief Therapy Centre in London. He is a Senior Accredited, Registered Member of BACP and now works as a counsellor / pyschotherapist, supervisor, trainer, and author. After a successful career in teaching, James set up his private practice in 1997. From 2010 to 2015 he served on the BACP Private Practice Divison Executive Committee.
Delegates who attended a previous occasion when this workshop was offered have said:
"I learned new ways of working, particularly with clients who are 'stuck'."
