This course provides an overview of what is meant by the terms ‘speech’, ‘language’ and ‘communication’, how these areas develop and what can be done to support children across KS1 & KS2 with development of these skills.

Aims:

• To give an overview of how speech, language and communication skills develop and what can ‘go wrong’
• To enable you to identify children in your setting with Speech, Language and Communication Needs
• To provide advice and strategies on encouraging development of speech, language and communication skills across KS1 & KS2
• When and how to access support from the Speech and Language Therapy service

Ideal for:

Any practitioners working with children across KS1 & KS2; teaching assistants, teachers and SENCOs.

This course is particularly useful for staff that are new to a setting or role supporting children or for those who would like to refresh their knowledge of speech, language and communication skills.
