Suitable for people considering training as a speech & language therapist who are considering applying to an MSc programme must have a level 6 qualifications.
Course Synopsis
This workshop will introduce you to working as a speech & language therapist (SLT), one of the allied health professions, and you will learn about the type of work an SLT does, who they work with and the places they work. The workshop will give you a flavour of the knowledge and skills you will develop during your SLT course, for example anatomy of the head and neck and how to transcribe speech. There will be time for questions.
Learning Objectives and Outcomes
- Understand the role of the SLT as an Allied Health Profession
- Understand how the SLT works with different client groups, adults and children
- Understand some of the type of skills and knowledge that an SLT student will acquire on the SLT course, for example anatomy of the head and neck, and speech transcription.

9.15-10am: Role of the SLT
10:00-10:15am: Break
10:15-10:45: SLT with children
10:45-11:15: SLT with adults
11:15-11:30: Break
11:30-12pm: Anatomy workshop
12-12:30: Transcription workshop
12:30-1pm: Recap and questions
