Here's everything about the event!

Pitfield Barn is an amazing East Sussex flower farm that runs all sorts of workshops. Feel free to arrive a little early to look around the gardens! At Pitfield Barn, there are all sorts of flowers growing - depending on the weather & the year the flowers will be slightly different. Generally though we'll be painting tulips, cosmos, alliums poppies and more.

What we'll be doing:

We'll be learning basic flower watercolour techniques, using a variety of brushes to achieve quick and simple ways of painting petals, stems and leaves. As we move forward through the session, we'll try new techniques for new flowers and by the end come away with pages of experiments, and a few finalised pages.

It’s a very low pressure class - while learning techniques - the most important thing is to just experiment and see what happens, and enjoy doing something arty surrounded by flowers!

Everyone has a different style & way of working and you are welcome to improve what you already know, or to go out of your comfort zone and try something new!

How to get here:

Public Transport:

  • Get a train from your location to Burgess Hill Train Station
  • Get a 10 min taxi for around £14 from Burgess Hill train station with Station Taxis.
  • By Car:
  • There is free parking at the venue, but you must leave the venue with your car once the workshop is finished as the gates will close and you'll get shut in! (for those who may want to go on a countryside walk after)

YOUR TUTOR

Hi I'm Zara who's behind 'Gingergreenartist'. I started teaching watercolours in March 2023 which is exciting because its been more than a year now! Multiple times week I run beginner watercolour classes where each session we have a different theme, generally to do with nature. This year I'm looking forward to running day courses, or some courses that span over a few weeks where we can get really stuck in to a particular subject.

My background is in illustration which I studied in Bristol from 2016 - 2019. I have previously worked in a bit of editorial illustration under the name 'Zara Wilkins'.

The thing I love most about watercolours is that it is so versatile. There are so many different ways it can be used, so many effects that you can create with different levels of water, pigment, paper weights and brushes. There doesn't really seem to be an end to what you can do with it. Teaching continues to be such a fun experience and I really look forward to every class I run.
