Join Research and Cultural Collections and Robert Whitworth (honorary curator of the Collection) to take a closer look at the Reifler high precision clock which was bought by Professor Poynting for the original Physics labs. It has recently been conserved and is back to its original accuracy. We will be discussing the conservation methods used as well as a brief history of the clock.
We will also be looking at historic instruments in the collection which have shaped scientific discovery such as radar, microwave ovens, and the weight of the earth as well as objects relating to the one of the world’s first proton synchrotron accelerators.
The tour will start at 12.45, and the meeting point is the ‘Old Joe’ Clock Tower. Please arrive at 12.35 to ensure that the tour can start promptly.
