SIPHER Synthetic Population

Our Synthetic Population for Individuals in Great Britain is a novel and unique data set which represents over 50 million individuals in Scotland, England, and Wales. The data set is created by combining aggregate-level population statistics with individual-level information from the UK Household Longitudinal Study (Understanding Society). Representative at a granular geographic resolution, the data provides new opportunities to quickly assess needs or derive small-area indicators using data on individuals.

In more advanced applications, the data can inform parameters of agent-based models or serve as an input data source in microsimulations. The SIPHER Synthetic Population for individuals will soon be available via the UK Data Service.

Our free workshop is hosted by SIPHER researcher Andreas Hoehn with support from Kashif Zia, SPHSU and Emma Comrie,SIPHER Embedded Researcher at Public Health Scotland.

It will provide researchers with the knowledge and skills to work with this new data source, with advice on the practicalities of supporting ongoing and proposed projects.

All data and code will be provided as part of the session.

All attendees should have a basic knowledge of R and bring a laptop to particpate in the planned hands-on activities.
