✨ Who is this course for?

This course is designed for participants who have already attended a Mindful Photography UK workshop. We’ll invite you to a short Zoom call to explore your goals and ensure this course is the right fit for you.

📸 What is Therapeutic Photography?

Therapeutic Photography is a guided, creative process that uses photography to promote self-reflection, increase self-esteem, build resilience, and develop greater self-awareness. It’s not about being a professional photographer—it's about seeing differently and connecting more deeply with your experiences.

🧰 What you'll need to take part:

Be registered with the Rise to Thrive programme (via your keyworker). If you’re not yet signed up, please contact rebecca@mindfulphotography.org.uk.

  • A camera or smartphone
  • A stable internet connection
  • Commitment to attend all six weekly sessions
  • Willingness to complete short reflective photography exercises between sessions
  • Prior and regular attendance at a Mindful Photography UK session either online or face to face

🌱 What you'll gain:

A deeper understanding of yourself through guided exploration

Support from an experienced and qualifed coach and facilitator in therapeutic photography, alongside a small group of peers

Strategies to manage stress, build confidence, and increased visual awareness

“The meaning of the photos changed for me as the project progressed; I reflected on the reason I’d uploaded them and sometimes saw other meanings in them. I managed to process quite a lot and became motivated in other areas of my life, areas where I was struggling… I actually started to get stuff done !”

Quote from participant, January 2021.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an expensive camera or be a photographer?

No, all you need is something to take a photograph on like a smartphone or camera. Mindful Photography is not about skill or equipment. It is about taking photos without judgement. We are a friendly group and cannot wait to welcome you.

What happens after the session is finished?

You will be invited into an online community project. You can also join us at other Rise to Thrive events in the area.

Is this like therapy?

We are not therapists but the process has a gentle and calming effect upon your wellbeing. We will be engaging in simple tasks to encourage mindfulness. We do ask that you are well and happy to engage in a small group session. We embody respect in our work and we ask that you do the same.

Will you be using my images?

We never share your images unless you specifically ask for us to. Your image and copyright remains your own. If you decide it upload your image to our joint facebook group it will be your choice with no pressure at all to do so.

Mindful Photography is part of a wider process called Therapeutic Photography where we use guided exercises to explore ourselves and our surroundings.

“I definitely feel more empowered by the process because it stops me feeling controlled by anxiety and thoughts. It gets me out of my head and feels like a super power I can use when I need it". Beth, February 2024
