Bydd y digwyddiad hwn yn dechrau drwy gyflwyno gwefan Deall Lleoedd Cymru (UWP) cyn mynd ati i gynnal gweithdy rhyngweithiol ac ymarferol.

Mae Deall Lleoedd Cymru yn rhoi data defnyddiol a gwybodaeth ddaearyddol i chi am eich tref neu ardal leol. Mae'r graffeg, y mapiau a'r canllawiau ar y wefan wedi cael eu datblygu i'ch galluogi i archwilio'r data sydd ei angen arnoch i'ch helpu i nodi cyfleoedd i'ch cymuned leol a gwneud gwahaniaeth yn y lle rydych chi'n byw neu'n gweithio.

Mae'r wefan yn cynnwys gwybodaeth am y 307 lle yng Nghymru sydd â 1,000 neu ragor o drigolion, ac mae gwybodaeth fanylach ar gael ar gyfer y 193 o leoedd sydd â 2,000 o drigolion neu ragor. Gellir gweld data ar gyfer lleoedd llai drwy'r offeryn Mapiau Cymdogaethau.

Mae pob tudalen lle yn darparu data am:

1. Nodweddion demograffeg, cymdeithasol ac economaidd ardal;

2. Pa wasanaethau ac asedau cymunedol sydd ar gael, gan gynnwys trafnidiaeth gyhoeddus; a

3. Sut mae pobl yn symud rhwng lleoedd, fel cymudo a phatrymau mudo.

Yn rhan o'r digwyddiad hwn, dangosir sut y gallwch ddefnyddio'r data am eich ardal leol i'ch helpu i ddeall ble rydych chi'n byw yn well.

Bydd y gweithdy hwn hefyd yn dangos i chi sut i ddefnyddio teclyn cymharu'r wefan a dulliau dosbarthu lleoedd i nodi tebygrwydd a gwahaniaethau rhwng lleoedd. Gall cymharu lleoedd roi syniadau i chi ar gyfer eich lle, neu gynnig cyfleoedd i gydweithio a rhannu strategaethau llwyddiannus gyda rhanddeiliaid mewn mannau tebyg i'ch lle eich hun.

Bydd y digwyddiad yn canolbwyntio'n benodol ar Gaerdydd a de Cymru. Rydym yn cynnal digwyddiad ar wahân sy'n canolbwyntio ar Fangor a gogledd Cymru.

Pwy ddylai fynd?

Gall unrhyw un fynd i'r digwyddiad hwn ond bydd yn arbennig o ddefnyddiol i aelodau cynghorau tref a chymuned, sefydliadau cymdeithas sifil, a grwpiau trydydd sector sydd â diddordeb yn eu hardal leol.

Trefnwyr y digwyddiad

Trefnir y digwyddiad hwn yn rhan o Ŵyl Gwyddorau Cymdeithas ESRC. Caiff ei arwain gan yr Athro Scott Orford a Samuel Jones o Dîm Data WISERD.

Ariennir Deall Lleoedd Cymru gan Ymddiriedolaeth Carnegie y DU a Llywodraeth Cymru, ac fe'i reolir gan Sefydliad Materion Cymru (IWA). Sefydliad Ymchwil a Data Cymdeithasol ac Economaidd Cymru (WISERD) sydd wedi dadansoddi’r data a datblygu'r wefan. Y Ganolfan Strategaethau Economaidd Lleol (CLES) sydd wedi datblygu'r model cyd-ddibyniaeth.

This event will begin by introducing the Understanding Welsh Places (UWP) website and will then provide an interactive, hands-on workshop

Understanding Welsh Places provides you with useful data and geographical information about your town or local area. The graphics, maps and guidance on the website have been developed to enable you to explore the data you need to help you identify opportunities for your local community and make a difference in the place where you live or work.

The website includes information about the 307 places in Wales with 1,000 or more residents, with more detailed information available for the 193 places with 2,000 residents or more. Data for smaller places can be viewed through the Neighbourhood Maps tool.

Each place page provides data on:

1. The demographic, social and economic make up of an area;

2. The availability of community services and assets, including public transport; and,

3. How people move between places, such as commuting and migration patterns.

As part of this event you will be shown how you can use the data about your local area to help you better understand where you live.

This workshop will also show you how to use the website’s comparison tool and place classifications to identify similarities and differences between places. Comparing places may give you ideas for your place, or offer opportunities for collaboration and sharing of successful strategies with stakeholders in places similar to your own.

This event will focus specifically on Cardiff and South Wales. We are running a separate event focusing on Bangor and North Wales.

Who should attend?

Anyone can attend this event but members of town and community councils, civil society organisations, and third sector groups who are interested in their local area will find it particularly useful.

Event organisers

This event is being organised as part of the ESRC’s Festival of Social Sciences. This event will be run by Professor Scott Orford and Samuel Jones from WISERD’s Data Team.

Understanding Welsh Places is funded by the Carnegie UK Trust and Welsh Government and managed by the Institute of Welsh Affairs (IWA). Data analysis and web development have been undertaken by the Wales Institute of Social and Economic Research and Data (WISERD). The inter-dependence model has been developed by the Centre for Local Economic Strategies (CLES).
