Overview

Join us for an urban moss survey in Burgess Park, and learn how to start identifying the many species that can be found in London's parks.

Introduction to Urban Mosses and Liverworts

Join ecologist Billy Dykes for a walk around Burgess Park, learning about the amazing mosses and liverworts (collectively termed bryophytes) that can be found in London's inner city parks.

These tiny plants are fascinating but often overlooked. We will have a stroll through the park and learn how to begin identifying the many common species that grow in our urban habitats, with fantastical names like Marble Screw-moss, Cypress-leaved Plait-moss and Rough-stalked Feather-moss.

Meet by the Stomping Grounds cafe at 11am. Bring lunch, sturdy footwear and warm clothes. If you have a hand lens or magnifying glass feel free to bring it along too!

This event may be cancelled in bad weather. Children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

The nearest tube station is Elephant & Castle. It's then roughly a 20 minute walk or 10 minute bus ride to the park.
