Introduction to Western Art History

This course, lasting 21 weeks, will give you an overview of all the Art Historical periods as covered in Western art history. You will be able to distinguish its most important players, recognise the look of each movement and period, and pinpoint the development in individual countries.

You will receive an intensive introduction to the history of Western Art and the talks will cover paintings, sculpture, architecture, and decorative art. Sessions concentrate on looking and understanding the works within the context they were made and comparing them to how they differ from works made in different time periods throughout Europe and how the art market moved to the US during the 20th century. Lessons provide you with an overview of many of the most important movements in art, its key artists, and reference to its historical context.

Note that due to the extent of the periods covered in this class, there is not always time to go into great depth, and students must expect to come out with a general understanding of Art History.

Each talk will require authentication to join; only names matching the attendance list will be allowed to join
