About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours

Join Rachel Kirk at Branklyn Garden for an introduction to willow weaving workshop

In this 3 hour workshop, you will learn how to weave a leaf frame basket with step-by-step instructions. This workshop is a great introduction to frame basket techniques for beginners and will be led by Rachel Kirk of Rachel's Willow Designs, a basketmaker and willow sculptor based in Abernethy. You will make the frame using a forma, weave willow to cover the frame then add two Japanese knots to secure both ends of the basket.

A leaf frame basket looks lovely on a sideboard or dining table where it can hold fruit, sweets or nuts. It also makes a beautiful basket for holding keys on a console table.

All materials and tools are included, and refreshments will be provided.

This workshop may not be suitable for those with hand/joint mobility issues.

Following the workshop why not have a wander around the garden, enjoy a light lunch in our tearoom or partake in a spot of retail therapy in our plant and gift shop.

Please note that the workshop will be held inside Branklyn House, there are six steps to negotiate to access the interior of the house.
