Event Details

This training day will explore a child-centred approach to working therapeutically with children under 12 years old. The workshop will include the following elements:

  • a discussion of child development and attachment theory relevant to this age group

  • an introduction of how to work with therapeutically with children using play

  • case study work based on typical child presentations

  • an emphasis on children who have experienced some kind of trauma

  • an opportunity to bring any examples of your own and to ask questions

The day will involve theory, practical work, and opportunity for questions and discussion.

The training day will be led by Nina Rye.  Nina has an MA in Non-directive Play Therapy at York University and is on the National Professional Register of Play Therapists.  She is also a Registered BAPT Supervisor.  She has worked as a Psychological Therapist for the Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, Child, Family, and Young Person Service in King's Lynn since 2001.  In addition to working with children and parents (using play therapy and filial therapy) Nina has also taught part-time on the MA course at York University, and has written a regular column for the BAPT Play Therapy Magazine for a number years.  She also works as a supervisor for other play therapists and therapists working with children, and offers occasional one-off consultations to parents.

Nina is a experienced therapist who is knowledgeable in her field, and who is passionate about the work that she does.
