Introduction to Youth Mental Health First Aid

Please note: This mental health first aid session will be delivered by West Lothian Council staff and is designed to offer practical insights and guidance around mental wellbeing. Spaces are limited, so early booking is encouraged. If you are unable to attend after booking, please arrange for a colleague to take your place. If your space remains unfilled, your service may be charged £50 to cover associated costs.

The course commences sharp at 0930, please arrive a little earlier if you can.

The aim of this course is to provide you with increased knowledge, skills and awareness around Youth Mental Health First Aid. For some staff this will be an opportunity to revisit knowledge you already have and think about how mental health is discussed comfortably with young people you may work with.

This is a 1-day course, which will include assessment/s to ensure your understanding. Please do not worry about the assessment/s, support will be provided to you.

In order to gain accreditation/qualification, you must stay until the end of the training and complete the assessment.

  2. Know how to provide support for youth mental health
  3. Understand the common youth mental health conditions
  4. Know the recognition signs of stress in youths and how to manage them
  5. Understand how substance abuse can impact on youth mental health
  6. Understand how to put an action plan in place for youth mental health
