What is a retreat?

A retreat serves as an opportunity to withdraw from the mundane aspects of daily study/work routine and metropolitan life. In the spiritual sense, a retreat’s purpose is for spiritual growth. It is a time to explore your internal self through deep meditation, a time to realise one’s closeness with the cosmic force that pervades the entire universe.

We have arranged a programme that revolves around collective practice of meditation and yoga postures. Practicing in a collective setting creates an ambience which facilitates our individual introversive flow.

Together we will practice:

  • Kiirtan (melodious mantra chanting)
  • Sadhana (meditation)
  • Svadhyaya (explanation of spiritual scriptures)
  • Asanas (yoga postures) and
  • Satsaunga (spiritual community)

Along with workshops, games, walks, tasty vegetarian/vegan meals and uplifting conversation. We aim to provide a memorable experience, an experience that will endow us with inspiration and stamina to go deeper and deeper into our practice after we return home from the programme.

What we request from you as participants is your sincere effort to follow the routine to the extent of your capacity.

What 'level' of yoga is it?

The term yoga is predominantly used to describe hatha yoga (physical asanas). Yoga is much more than just the physical aspect and this retreat will give an introduction its all encompassing nature. The Retreat is designed to give you an overall idea and insight into meditation and spiritually beneficial practices. The hatha yoga class will be given by an experienced practitioner however this will not form the basis of this retreat.

Where and what is the Retreat venue?

Lime Farm is a large beautiful country house set in Little Missenden which is about a 7 minute drive from Amersham station. Lime Farm is essentially the residential home of a family of 4 who will be present during the Retreat. They are friendly, helpful and welcome the participants.

Is accommodation provided?

Yes! There are 7 bedrooms in the house. You will be allocated a bed in one of the rooms and will be sharing with others. Your bed will be an air mattress. Please bring your own sleeping bag.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Anyone 16 or over is free to attend our retreats.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Metropolitan line tubes run to Amersham station where we will pick you up and drop you off. There will also be vehicles going from the Stoke Newington yoga centre, please contact the organiser for details. Parking at Lime Farm is plentiful.

What do I need to bring?

Apart from the basics (clothes, toiletries, etc.) everyone will need to bring their own sleeping bag, yoga mat and towel. All meals will be provided - please let us know if you have any allergies.

What shouldn't I bring?

In order to create a subtle spiritual environment, we ask you not to bring any alchohol, cigarettes or drugs. We also ask you not to bring ipods or music players, electronic game devices and laptops. Mobile phones can be brought but their use should be confined to out of class times and only where absolutely necessary.
