Introductory Walk - Pollok Park Promenade

Come along to an introductory group walk with Glasgow Ramblers around Pollok Park.

Interested in walking, meeting people, local and social history or any or all of these come and join us in a wander round Glasgow’s largest country park. This walk is aimed at welcoming new walkers and those interested in joining the Ramblers.

After meeting and introductions at the station, we will take a quieter path into the park and approach Pollok House from the south. The walk will take us through the varied woodlands, walled and woodland gardens and along the side of the White Cart. There are a few ups and downs but the majority of the walk is level and on a mix of surfaces, some muddy, especially if there has been some rain.

Both Pollok House and the Burrell Collection are in the park, and are available for facilities but will not be visited on the walk. The park was also home to the Pollok Free State, the local community opposition to the building of the M77, which divided the park.

There is also the opportunity to see some local wildlife - deer, highland cows, various species of duck, the occasional cormorant and heron. Although we can't promise that they will accommodate us on the day.

The walk is scheduled to take about three hours however this will depend on the pace as we walk at a speed to suit those who attend.

Please bring sufficient drinks and food as we will stop for a snack.

On the day please be aware of the weather and dress accordingly we will be walking through woodland paths. This is a leisurely 5 miles/ 8.1km walk.
