About this event

The Investment Bootcamp is a full day of facilitated sessions designed to help East Sussex based SME owners prepare for their first raise. Alongside expert coaching to help you refine a compelling story and design your pitch you'll also have the opportunity for Q&A with active investors and founders who have gone through the journey to investment.

Event schedule:

10am: Introductions and Networking

10.20am: Pitching Your Story with Joseph Bradfield (Communications Advisor, Sussex Innovation). With only a short window to impress, a clear and compelling story is essential to grab investors’ attention and get them bought in to your idea. Joseph shares the secrets of how to use your business journey as the starting point to craft an effective narrative that will leave an impression.

11.30am: How to Design and Present a Pitch Deck with Neema Amin (Head of Ventures, Sussex Innovation). Your pitch deck will often be investors’ first exposure to your business. You only get one chance to make a first impression, so how do you decide what to include? Neema explains what our community of investors want to see, and how to create a deck that stands out without burying the important detail.

12.30pm: Lunch

1.30pm: Developing a Video Teaser with Doug Faulkner and Sam Beard. In this practical session, presenter and performance coach Doug Faulkner and videographer Sam Beard take you through the skills, tools and techniques to create a short video teaser that you can share with the investment community to win the opportunity to pitch.

2.30pm: Networking and Drop-in Surgery all of the day’s presenters will be available for Q&A.

3pm: Alternative Finance with Nigel Lambe (Chief Executive, Sussex Innovation). Angel investment is one of the most popular routes to securing start-up finance, but it’s not the only way. Nigel outlines the range of different options, including grants, bank loans, equity fundraising and more – as well as when and how to apply them.

4pm: Fireside Chat – What Angels are Looking For with special guests TBA. Neema and Nigel interview successful angel investors about how they decide which projects to back, the due diligence that every investor needs, and which factors make the biggest difference in the pitch.

This programme is funded by the UK Government through the UK Community Renewal Fund.
