HOW INVESTMENT-READY IS YOUR BUSINESS?

Becoming investment ready and raising growth capital for your business is an intensive process. For any high-growth startups looking to raise early stage-investment - this workshop zeros in on some of the foundations for raising funds from investors helping you avoid many of the pitfalls startups often make.
At MSDUK, our partnership with the Enterprise Europe Network at UCL is aligned with a focus around “unlocking innovation through diversity” providing investor-led input and guidance to support young founders, especially from underrepresented minority-led businesses where equity investment is most lacking.

We outline the essential checklist & criteria that every entrepreneur needs to have in place to significantly improve the opportunity to gain equity-based funds. You will learn about:

Alysia Silberg, General Partner at Street Global VC

Alysia is an entrepreneur & seed-stage technology investor engaging startups addressing global challenges via AI, business automation, fin-tech, health-tech, infrastructure, life-science, robotics and security tech. Street Global, bridges Silicon Valley & global markets with knowhow, capital and powerful relationships. Also the Founder & Host of the weekly Global FiresideChatTM online radio show on entrepreneurship (+100k followers across +65 countries). As a speaker, author & social advocate, she educates on entrepreneurship, investing, technology and social impact and advises European, African and Emerging governments on startup ecosystems, entrepreneurship, and empowerment.

Colin Spiller, London Manager, Angels Den

Colin worked for 6 years as the Business Development Manager for an early stage Tech focus VC, and generated an extra £1.5m into investee companies. Launched and manages the London Angel Club for Angels Den, which has raised over £8m for entrepreneurs in 7 years and delivers their Masterclasses for new Angel Investors. Colin also Co-Leads the meetings of the 3Cs Community on a pro bono basis, which encourages entrepreneurs based on a “pay it forward” principle. Colin is a member of the Information Technology Livery Company and a Founder Member of the Guild of Entrepreneurs. Prior to setting up his own company 20 years ago, Colin’s corporate career included setting up a 150 people organization in 6 months and managing a $30m budget, rapidly generating a $5m pa revenue stream in financial services.

Johanna Bengtsson, Investor Relations Manager at VentureFounders

Johanna manages communication flow between over 30 portfolio companies and investors, coordinates follow on investment rounds and assists on deal origination/due diligence. Previously she worked at Funding Circle, UK’s largest online lender.

Rodney Appiah, Director, Private Equity at Foresight Group

Rodney is a venture capital investor at Foresight Private Equity, a leading investor in early-stage UK businesses. He has worked with several entrepreneurial companies over the last 11 years and currently sits on the board of a number of high growth businesses, including Postworks, Fresh Relevance, Specac, Idio, and Ollie Quinn. Prior to joining Foresight in 2016, Rodney spent 5 years as an Investment Manager at the Business Growth Fund (BGF) where he focused on providing minority equity capital to UK SMEs. During his time at the firm, he helped to deliver BGF’s first investment post-launch and first full exit to trade following the £114 million sales of Unruly Media to News Corp in 2015. Rodney began his career at Merrill Lynch where, over a five-year period, he closed more than 15 transactions ranging from $50 million to $1.2 billion in size.


Asheesh Malaney, Co-Founder at Tripifini - an early stage global marketplace for experiential travel.

Asheesh began his career as a strategy consultant in New York and then went on to launch his first travel venture - Natural Mystic South Asia, which has gone on to become one of India's leading luxury tour operators. He has also worked in the digital strategy sector at Capgemini & Fremantle Media. While in India Asheesh launched a few ventures in the hotels & hospitality, real estate, and food & beverage sectors. With over 20 years of experience in entrepreneurship and travel & tourism, Asheesh helps advice early-stage travel ventures and is currently advising two such ventures in London.


Alexandra Isenegger, CEO and Co-Founder at Linkilaw - the legal platform for startups

While working in a corporate law firm, Alexandra realised that the remarkable inefficiencies in the fee structures and business practices of large firms created a business need for modern, efficient legal services for startups. Alex is featured in Forbes 30 under 30, is Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2018 by startups.co.uk and Woman in Legal Tech by WomenInTech. Her core strengths lie in legal, business strategy, implementing vision and culture in a team. She has also assisted in over 500 early stage investment deals for startups.

Shelley Taylor, Founder at trellyz - creates location-based, real-time communication and resource management apps for nonprofits and cities.

Shelley is a serial digital entrepreneur originally from Silicon Valley and is credited with creating the “user interface bible”, creating most of the language we use today to describe websites. Having recently raised Angel funding for her company Trellyz. For her previous company, Shelley also raised $10 million. With deep expertise in product design, meta-data categorization, social impact, she is passionate about helping those who help others have a greater impact through technology.


Colleen Becker, Founder at Sampson Solutions - an industrial biotechnology stealth start-up.

Trained as a cultural historian, Dr. Colleen Becker has over twenty years’ experience in project initiation, management and implementation at major cultural institutions like the Guggenheim, the Whitney and the Art Institute of Chicago. Previously, she taught in Columbia University’s core curriculum.
