Event description
'Invisible’ - For parents/carers of Year 6 & 7 pupils, teaching professionals and Pastoral Care Leads - from all Essex schools

About this Event

Why come along?

For Parents - It’s an evening designed for parents of children in Year 6 and 7 to help them better understand some of the issues surrounding children’s mental health, as their children move from primary to secondary education.

For Teachers/Pastoral Care Staff – It’s an introduction to ‘Invisible’ and the various performance and training options available to schools across the region for both students and teachers. (Schools represented at this event will receive discount vouchers for future bookings. Includes one booking per school for staff training or a parents performance/evening).

What is it?

The evening will start with an abridged performance of ‘Invisible’ from N-Act Theatre in Schools - a play which touches on the topical theme of mental health.

Denny’s story makes us think about perception, stigma, how to recognise if someone is suffering, how we can help, and when to call in the professionals.

Following this, there will be an opportunity to discuss the issues raised, and highlight some of the trigger points young people currently face, such as

• Exam pressures

• Friendship issues

• Social media and a life online

• New experiences

• Family life/relationships

Who is it for?

We are all keen to help children understand how to be mentally healthy - "developing pupils' confidence, resilience and knowledge so they can keep themselves mentally healthy". (Young Minds 2019). Those in the best position to do this are parents and teachers. This evening is for:

Parents - of children in Year 6 and 7 (from all schools) interested in keeping their child mentally healthy and how to spot the early signs if something is not quite right.

Teachers and Pastoral Care Leads - interested in exploring the ‘Invisible’ packages for their own schools, including those for the students, the parents and the training/support available for staff.

Note: This evening is not intended for children as it approaches the topics from a parent/adult perspective.
