Involving your users: When, how and why

Following on from the success of What makes a good charity? NPC’s guide to charity analysis, the Leading Impact seminars will explore what an effective charity looks like. What makes a good charity? is intended to help charities and social enterprises assess their performance, and identify areas of strength and development, enabling them to improve and achieve more for the causes they are set up to serve. It also helps funders make decisions about the organisations they fund, and where to focus support.
Each seminar will explore a particular area we think makes an effective charity.
About this seminar
There is a lot of talk about charities being ‘user-led’, but does your charity confidently involve people using the charity in shaping its work? All charities exist for their users. Yet paradoxically, users often have little or no influence over the charities’ decisions, and no way to let the organisations know how they would like things done differently.
Involving users in its leadership, shaping strategy, designing services, and developing the charity’s impact practice (including data collection) will help a charity to better serve its cause.
The seminar, drawing on User voice: Putting people at the heart of impact practice, will ask:
- When is the right time to get users involved?
- What is the best way to involve your users?
- Why should you get your users involved?
