Event description

Description

An evening meeting organised by the Southern Branch including expert assistance and guidance from:

Andy McKenzie (Hayes McKenzie Partnership)

Ed Clarke (Clarke Saunders Associates)

The extraction of shale gas using hydraulic fracturing techniques, also known as 'unconventional' gas extraction but more commonly as 'fracking', has attracted a great deal of public attention. Essentially it is similar to 'conventional' onshore methane gas extraction whereby reserves are 'mined' using a combination of drilling and pumping to get the methane gas to the surface for onward transmission, storage and use. Andy McKenzie and Ed Clarke were employed, respectively, by Lancashire County Council and the Roseacre Awareness Group to represent them on noise issues at the Public Inquiry held in February and March 2016 in respect of the developer's appeal against Lancashire CC's decision to turn down applications for two sites in Lancashire. Ed and Andy will present the background to the two cases, the issues arising, the evidence which was presented, the Inspector's conclusions and the Secretary of State's decision.

Our AGM will be conducted immediately prior to the talk.

After the meeting, all attendees are invited to adjourn to a local curry house to continue the discussion. The exact location will be announced on the night.
