Description

Please join us at our Meet Up Monday event for the opportunity to meet, connect and share ideas over drinks with peers, colleagues and fellow directors.

We are delighted that Alan Johnson, the former Health, Education and Home Secretary has agreed to join us to talk about his passion for Hull, his life as a best-selling author, and his current role as Independent Chair of Citycare and Shared Agenda.

The event is FREE and open to both IoD members and non-members.

Please feel free to pop in for a drink during the evening and pass the invitation on to any friends or colleagues who may also be interested in attending.

We hope that you can join us

The Rt Hon Alan Johnson was the Member of Parliament for Hull West and Hessle until he stepped down in 2017.

Following his retirement from politics he took on the role of Independent Chair at Citycare, a company which has transformed Hull’s health estate. Part-owned by the NHS, the public private partnership was set up in 2004 and has since delivered 13 new health and wellbeing centres across Hull, alongside other major refurbishment projects and a wide range of other estates services generating over £250 million of economic impact for the city.

Alan started writing books while he was still an MP and is now one of the country’s best-selling and most successful authors. His first book, This Boy, won the RSL Ondaatje Prize and the Orwell Prize in 2013. His second, Please Mister Postman, won the National Book Award for Autobiography of the Year in 2014. His third, The Long and Winding Road, was published in 2016 and won the Parliamentary Book Award for Best Memoir. His fourth book, “In my life” was published in September 2018. The titles of all his books are names of songs written by, or performed by The Beatles, whom he has worshipped with undying admiration since the early sixties.
