Event description

Description

For one day only, Wetherby Gardens is opening its gates for a unique performance of Iolanthe with music by Arthur Sullivan and a libretto by Harrington Garden's very own W. S. Gilbert. Iolanthe, also known as 'The Peer and the Peri', is one of the fourteen comic operas that were products of the fruitful partnership. A satire of British government and society, Iolanthe is dressed up as a hilarious plot concerning feminism, mysticism and love, as fairy Iolanthe is banished from fairyland as a result of marrying a mortal.

Suitable for children and adults alike, Iolanthe offers a light introduction to the operatic style, using Wetherby Gardens as a beautiful backdrop. Full chorus and orchestra.

SPONSORSHIP:

We'd be extremely grateful for any sponsorship. We are a team of students all working on a volintary basis, tackling a large project, and there are some costs that cannot be avoided and must be paid up front. We are, however, ambitious, and hopeful that the public would be so kind to donate to our production, so that it may be realised to its full potential. SPONSORS WILL GAIN ENTRY INTO GILBERT'S HOUSE AT 39 HARRINGTON GARDENS AS A TOKEN OF APPRECIATION.

Children under 10 free
