About this event
Course description:
Nurses and other healthcare professionals who have an expanded scope of practice, where it is appropriate for them, may refer for diagnostic radiology procedures involving ionising radiation. The Trust complies with the relevant legislation, IR(ME)R, by educating those involved with medical exposures about safety aspects, the law and required employer written procedures.
Course aim:
This course aims to provide radiation protection and regulation awareness training for prospective non-medical referrers for diagnostic radiology procedures involving ionising radiation to the Radiology department of UHS or radiology departments in other Trusts.
Objectives:
By the end of this course students should be able to:
- understand what radiation is
- know the effects of radiation
- know the principles of protection
- understand the legislative roles and in particular that of the Referrer
- understand the referral process and possible incidents

Before attending this course, the attendee must have one of the following: a UHS approved Expanded Scope of Practice or be part of a named group that already has a UHS approved Expanded Scope of Practice a similar agreement with another Trust
Yes, it is delivered as an eLearning package, allowing you to complete it at your own pace within the allocated time.
A certificate is issued once the course has been completed and the delegate has successfully passed the quiz. The certificate is available for download for one month after the quiz is passed.
You can retake the quiz. There is no limit to the number of attempts, but you must pass to receive your certificate.
