Event description

Description

The MINIBALL setup at the ISOLDE facility was exploited to perform Coulomb excitation (Coulex) measurements around energies below the safe-Coulomb barrier in order to obtain nuclear structure information using radioactive beams. An upgrade of this facility, HIE-ISOLDE, is currently capable of delivering higher beam energies. A variety of exotic beams can be used together with the MINIBALL setup for the first time to perform Coulomb-nuclear excitation (CNE) measurements at energies around the Coulomb barrier. Much higher excitation probabilities, i.e. data with higher statistics, for some of the beam-target combinations can be obtained using CNE compared to that in Coulex. Therefore, there is an excellent opportunity at present to employ CNE together with the MINIBALL setup to study nuclear structure of some of the exotic species with low-production cross sections.

The meeting is aimed at bringing together people with interest and experience in performing reactions around the Coulomb barrier. Discussions will be particularly focused on studies of level structures and electromagnetic matrix elements in exotic nuclei by employing the CNE technique at the MINIBALL/HIE-ISOLDE facility. A few invited presentations are planned covering especially some topics on opportunities with the HIE-ISOLDE facility, cross section calculations for reaction channels near the Coulomb barrier, sensitivity of inelastic channels to electromagnetic moments, Coulex analysis techniques relevant to CNE and recent measurements at HIE-ISOLDE. An open discussion will follow to plan proposals that can be submitted to INTC. The meeting is also suitable for early career PhD/PDRA level researchers to contribute to the discussions.
