Event description

Description

On 21st March the Institute of Physics and Oxford University will be hosting a public talk by Dr Alastair Wilson from the University of Birmingham entitled "Quantum Metaphysics".

Philosophy, specifically natural philosophy, used to be our main route to understanding the deep underlying structure of reality. Physics emerged out of natural philosophy during the Scientific Revolution, and over the past few centuries it has come to seem as though physics is all we need to understand the natural world. But is there still any role for philosophy to play? In this talk we'll see how metaphysics and physics can work together to help us understand some of the deepest mysteries of nature: chance, possibility and necessity.

Dr Wilson is a Reader in Philosophy, focusing on research in metaphysics and philosophy of physics.

The talk is open to anyone with an interest and will start at 19:00 with refreshments served from 18:45.

Registration is not essential, but helps us judge capacity and the refreshments required.
