The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was invited to produce a special report in 2018 on the impacts of an increase in global mean surface temperature of 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. This report covered both the climate impacts that would be observed in this scenario (and also a small overshoot towards 2°C) but also the greenhouse gas emission targets that would be required to achieve this target. As such this report has its roots in both the science surrounding climate change, but also the policy making options and requirements in conjunction with each other.

The Cambridge Centre for Climate Science (CCfCS) is delighted to announce we have brought together an exciting pair of keynote speakers who will discuss this report from the perspective of the climate science and the climate policy angles. Our speakers are Prof. Piers Forster from the University of Leeds and Dr Joanna Depledge, an Editor at the Climate Policy Journal. Prof. Forster is an author on numerous IPCC reports including the recent special report on Global Warming of 1.5C. Dr Depledge has an extensive background in international climate change politics, and global environmental negotiations. Dr Depledge has been following climate negotiations for the past 20 years.

After their seminars, there will be a panel discussion featuring a range of speakers from across the science and policy spectrum. Currently this panel will feature Prof. Forster, Dr Depledge, Dr Emily Shuckburgh (British Antarctic Survey) and Dr Pablo Salas (University of Cambridge) with further speakers to be announced in due course.

The event takes place at the British Antarctic Survey in our recently opened Aurora Conference centre and admission will be by ticket only.
