Shoot and Edit Video on your iPhone or iPad

Back by popular demand but in a new Liverpool location.  This workshop gives an introduction to video storytelling and easy-to-master editing software using your iPhone or iPad.  Refreshments will be available at 9.00 am and the course will start promptly at 9.30 am.

The day is made up of a series of practical exercises designed to get you shooting and editing video on your mobile phone or tablet with confidence. Step by step, the workshop goes from shooting professional-looking interviews to editing simple but effective stories, understanding the importance of shot composition, clip ‘sequences’ and audio. Before the day we will tell you which software to download, and of course
you will need your smart phone on the day.

A PDF ‘toolkit’ will be shared at the end of the workshop with links to relevant apps and equipment.

Participants will learn how to:

• Shoot and edit professional-looking interviews, understand shot framing, background, audio and lighting. Includes tips for interview and question style

• Use ‘vox pop’ techniques to create testimonial videos and bring events to life

• Learn how to create a short ‘explainer’ videos using images or clips (valuable for explaining issues or introducing a product or service)

• Understand the principles of video storytelling using sequences of clips, and combine them with an interview to create a short story ‘package’

• Learn tips and tricks for using editing apps on iPhone/iPad (or Android mobiles/tablets)

Tutor Dan Mason

Dan runs workshops for the National Union of Journalists, training young journalists how to use their iPhones to shoot and edit video. Most newspapers now use video on their digital editions which creates an opportunity for PR people!

His career started on weekly newspapers, rising through regional to the national dailies. After leaving Birmingham as deputy editor of the Birmingham Evening Mail, he became editor of the Coventry Evening Telegraph, where his team won the title of Newspaper of the Year and he was awarded the Samuel Storey Award for UK editors.

Later he became managing director of Coventry Newspapers, at the time employing around 500 people, expanding the company’s portfolio and developing new media streams. He was also Editor and Publisher of the Birmingham Post for four years, before heading back to London as a managing editor for Newsquest media.

At the event, non members will have the opportunity to request a special discount code that will allow them to join the CIPR without paying the joining fee.

Book early as places are limited to 10 people.  Note that no refunds or credits will be issued for any delegate cancelling a place after 19 June 2017, although you may send a substitute.

For more information or if you have any problems with the payment system, please email Linda O’Neil, CIPR NW’s group administrator, at ciprnw@admin-answers.co.uk or call 0845 331 2287.
