CIPD Lancashire Branch: IR 35 - What are the implications for you and your business?

The CIPD Lancashire Branch will be hosting 'IR35 ‐ What are the implications for you and your business?' event, with our Sponsors ‐ Forbes Solicitors and Hays Recruitment.

This event is suitable for all HR professionals, business leaders and contractors seeking to gain further understanding of IR35 in their business and collate advice on how to prepare for 6 April 2020.

This breakfast session will provide guidance on the impact of IR35 when this is the legal requirement from 6 April 2020. The session will help you to understand and prepare for changes to the off‐payroll working rules (IR35).

About the speakers



Emma Swan, Partner at Forbes and Head of Commercial Employment.

Emma is working with clients of a variety of sizes in contentious and non‐contentious matters. Key sectors Emma works within include manufacturing, construction and hospitality.

She is valued by clients as not only an employment lawyer, but a business adviser who is accessible and attentive too.

Emma has experience in areas such as providing strategic level advice on employment aspects of restructures, transfers, mergers and acquisitions, advising on TUPE, conducting advocacy in Employment Tribunal cases, supporting with daily HR issues particularly discrimination issues, providing practical and strategic training and employment tribunal litigation across the country.

Emma is a Legal 500 recommended lawyer.


John Pickervance, Associate Solicitor, Commercial for Forbes Solicitors

John has been at Forbes since 2011 and specialises in commercial matters, heading up Forbes’ Manufacturing & Engineering sector group and takes an active role in the construction sector group. John works for clients across a range of sectors and trading on both a national and international basis. John’s work predominantly relates to advising on, negotiating and drafting contracts governing the provision of both goods and services (B2B and B2C) but also deals with a wide range of commercial contract matters including agency, distribution, manufacturing, consultancy, franchising and other bespoke matters. John regularly acts in connection with construction projects, implementing building contracts, collateral warranties and other ancillary agreements.

John also advises on and assists businesses in relation to the identification, protection and exploitation of intellectual property and IT issues including digital compliance, software development and licensing agreements and support and maintenance contracts.



Jeff Taylor, Director at Hays Specialist Recruitment Jeff has just celebrated his 25th anniversary working for Hays Specialist Recruitment, having started his career in London, then being responsible for Scotland, the North East, Yorkshire and the North West.

Based from the Hays office in Preston and operationally responsible for all recruitment matters for Hays across Lancashire, Cumbria and Dumfries, Jeff also has wider responsibility for Hays’ Permanent recruitment strategy, their Construction & Property specialism and also heads their People & Culture agenda for their 220 recruiters based in the North West.

Jeff continues to be a governor of Preston’s College and also operates as an Enterprise Advisor for an East Lancashire high school. As a leader of the Lancashire and Cumbria business Jeff has led the IR35 agenda across our local business area, providing support, guidance and previous insights to the Hays customer base across both their public and private sector business community.
