Event description

Description

For the culturally inquisitive, Iran offers a feast of ancient sights, architecture, splendid cuisine and very hospitable people.

Join us to delve deeper into the rich history and culture with special guests - author and cook, Yasmin Khan, and expert in the history of Islamic art and architecture, Dr Mehreen Chida-Razvi.

Yasmin Khan is a best-selling author and cook, who is passionate about sharing people's stories through food. Her debut cookbook and travelogue ‘The Saffron Tales: Recipes from the Persian Kitchen’ celebrates her culinary adventures through Iran and was named by the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and the BBC Food Programme as one of their best cookbooks of 2016. Yasmin runs pop-up supper clubs and cookery classes around the world and her recipes have appeared in publications, including the Guardian, the Observer, the Independent, The Telegraph, Vogue, Sainsburys Magazine and Stylist.

Dr Mehreen Chida-Razvi is a Research Associate in the Department of the History of Art at SOAS University London and Assistant Editor for the International Journal of Islamic Architecture. She earned her BSc and BA from the University of Florida, Gainesville, before moving to London, where she completed an MA in Art History at the Courtauld Institute of Art, and a second MA and a PhD in the History of Art & Archaeology from SOAS. She specializes in the history of Islamic art, architecture and material culture in the early modern era, with a particular emphasis on the Persianate regions of Mughal South Asia, Iran and Central Asia.

Both Yasmin and Mehreen will be hosting new expert led group tours for Wild Frontiers in 2018.

Hosted by Wild Frontiers MD & Founder, Jonny Bealby, the evening will also look at alternative regions for travel in Iran. Our Head of Group Tours, Marc Leaderman, will talk about the allures of the beautiful Alborz Mountains in the north, the surprising UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Western Iran and take you east into the remote Lut Desert.
