About this event

We are delighted to invite you to our event in celebration of the Centenary of Iris Murdoch. We have invited a panel of those who knew her to share with you their personal memories of the great writer and philosopher who inspired those who knew her, were taught by her or read her novels.

The Panel will be chaired by Miles Leeson, Senior Lecturer in English Literature at the University of Chichester and Director of the Iris Murdoch Research Centre, and our guest panellists will include:

AN Wilson, a close friend of Iris and her husband John Bailey, and author of ‘Iris Murdoch As I Knew Her’

Kate Levey, Iris’ god-daughter, who is the daughter of one of her closest friends

Judith Vidal-Hall (Editor of St Anne's College magazine, The Ship) whom Iris interviewed for a place at St Anne’s and knew her well thereafter

Maureen Gruffydd Jones, one of her moral philosophy pupils at St Anne’s

This is a wonderful opportunity to listen to and share personal memories and explore the impact and influence of Iris Murdoch, both personally and professionally. The panel discussion will begin at 3pm and be followed by tea, coffee and cake, and an opportunity to chat together informally.
