Event description

Description

Come join us in building Ireland’s first grassroots foreign policy think tank!

Are you enthusiastic about global politics, excited at the thought of being part of an international network, or eager to try something new? Then we have a place for you!

We are a group of young people developing the first grassroots think tank in Ireland, as part of the international network of open think tanks, foraus global. Everyone is welcome to join us for this first outreach event. We are looking for people who are interested in international politics, with an enquiring mind and a desire to engage with others. This project can also offer you a dynamic outlet and platform to fully apply and develop various skill sets - for instance, web development, communication, or research.

This participatory event will involve a short information session about the foraus global network and what a grassroots think tank could look like in Dublin, followed by a set of interactive discussions where you can develop and share your ideas. After the event we'll all be heading on to a nearby pub - where we can continue the debate on from there!

For those who are keen to work with us, we will meet again on Saturday morning to discuss in greater detail the organisational structure of the think tank.

Our Project:

We are Ireland’s first grassroots foreign policy think tank.

Our think tank is open and participatory. The grassroots element means that, rather than from the top-down, the momentum of our project originates with our members.

We are part of a global network of open think tanks. For more information, visit the websites of our sister organisations - foraus in Switzerland, Polis180 in Berlin, Agora in London and Argo in Paris.

Participation in this network allows us to work closely with already existing think tanks in other European countries, to exchange skills and knowledge, as well as to create a truly European project.

Our Aims:

We want to provide people a with an inclusive, dynamic outlet for engaging with foreign policy and European politics in a constructive and meaningful way. We will support our members by offering channels and platforms for connecting with political themes and issues in innovative ways, outside of traditional fora.

Our aim is to produce practical, coherent and future-oriented policy proposals using evidence-based analytical methods. We hope that our work will bring civil society and decision makers closer together by providing our members with a platform for political engagement, and ensuring that those viewpoints are heard by decision makers.

Our Values:

We are independent and non-partisan. We believe that this provides us with a unique and impartial perspective, favourable to the production of creative solutions to complicated problems.

The structure of our organisation and the projects that we pursue reflect the principles that we hold - regard for the democratic values of tolerance, equality, inclusivity, and respect for human rights and the rule of law. We aim to encourage engagement with international affairs and foster an understanding of the structures and issues that influence global policy. Our hope is that these actions will in turn enrich open discussions and debate, and lead to constructive, outward-looking policy proposals.
