Event description
An online presentation by Dr Fionnuala Walsh, Lecturer/Assistant Professor at University College Dublin.

About this Event

The Antrim & Down branch of the Western Front Association (WFA) and the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI) would like to invite you to an online presentation by Dr Fionnuala Walsh, Lecturer/Assistant Professor at University College Dublin.

Dr Walsh will talk about her book, Irish Women and the Great War and in particular on women's everyday lives in Ireland, focussing on the years of the war and its immediate aftermath. She will aim to demonstrate how Irish women threw themselves into the war effort, mobilising in various different forms, such as nursing wounded soldiers, preparing hospital supplies and parcels of comforts, undertaking auxiliary military roles in port areas or behind the lines, and producing weapons of war. However, she argues the war's impact was also felt beyond direct mobilisation, affecting women's household management, family relations, standard of living, and work conditions and opportunities.

This event is taking place on Zoom. Registration closes one hour before the event and an invite link will be sent to everyone registered one hour before the beginning of the event.
