Dan Mandoc, FIRSE, was Professional Head of Telecommunications for Network Rail for six years. He was UIC ERIG Chairman, dealing with the GSM-R Specifications, and closely associated with the development of the system to replace of GSM-R, known as the Future Radio Mobile Communication System (FRMCS), since its inception. He is now Head of FRMCS at the Union Internationale des Chemins de fer (UIC – International Union of Railways) and leading the project. His presentation will cover the following aspects: Progress, Functionality, Architecture, Spectrum, Migration, Railway Emergency Calls, Capacity, Trials, Training and the Timeline for the new system to become available.
