About this event

Colonialism is the process by which one country takes control of another country or group of people. Colonialism involves control of those who have been colonised and a degradation of the historical culture and practices of the colonised group(s).

Colonialism is extrinsically linked to the climate crisis both historically and in modern day. The industrial revolution lead to an increase in emissions and extraction which has continued to impact us globally. The industrial revolution was supported by the exploitation of people and their land through colonisation.

To have true sustainability, we must create a safe and healthy environment for all and work to decolonise and undo the harm of colonisation.

In this interactive workshop, we will explore the links between climate change and colonialism and will:

🔎Look historically at the causes of the climate crisis and how this links to colonialism

🌍Delve into current colonisation practices happening in modern day

🌦️Discuss the impact of colonisation on disproportional climate effects

🌿Explore how decolonisation and sustainable action coexist
