Chris Ambler - Chief Executive of Jersey Electricity plc

Debate Moderated by: Jess Dunston, ITV
It is taking place Wednesday 15th June from 6-8pm in the Great Hall at Highlands College and is free and open to all.
About the Event:
As a species, we continue to consume, pollute, and waste like there is no tomorrow. And our days will be numbered if we do not act now and make sustainability a way of life. Scientists warn that even if all the Paris Agreement emissions commitments were met, temperatures would surpass 1.5Oc warming, and increase by 3Oc to 5Oc by 2100. At this temperature, seas could rise by more than 2 metres this century as more than two-thirds of the world’s glaciers melt.
GoJ are looking towards a people powered approach to reaching net zero by 2050. The carbon neutral roadmap highlights that Transport and Heating/Energy are the largest source of on-Island greenhouse gas emissions, they are responsible for 44% and 36% of scope one emissions respectively.
Does Jersey have the appetite, infrastructure, skills, education, knowledge, investment and policies to achieve a reduction of emissions by 68% in 2030 (only 8 years away), and target of net zero by 2050?
