Event description

Description

The Fabian IPG is delighted to be hosting a roundtable on Monday 9 July with Jim Hoare, the former British chargé d’affaires in Pyongyang and one of the UK’s foremost experts on North Korea.

This event will explore the aims and motivations behind the country’s recent moves at rapprochement with the international community. Is Kim Jong-Un genuinely willing to give up his nuclear weapons and be a partner for peace? Or does he have other aspirations in mind, such as decoupling the US from the peninsula and seeking the unification of the Koreas? If sanctions are to be lifted, what is the potential for North Korea’s economic development? Why is Mr Kim so eagerly courting leaders not just from South Korea and the US, but China and Russia too? What is life really like in North Korea for its people and how do they see us in the West?

These are just some of the important questions we will be exploring at our roundtable event on 9 July, so please do join us for what should be an extremely fascinating discussion.
