Event description

Description

The government is committed to providing prisoners with work as part of their sentence plan and to increasing the number of people with a job when they leave custody.

Our vision is that when an offender enters prison they should be put, immediately, on the path to employment on release. [Education & Employment Strategy 2018]

  • What role could social enterprises play in supporting these aims?

What are the opportunities and barriers and what can the key players – policy makers, prison leaders and staff, prisoners and social enterprises – play in increasing impact?

How can the criminal justice system become more enterprising and to engage more effectively with partners from the third sector and the private sector?

These are just some of the questions that will be addressed at a participative conference being hosted by SERIF as part of its current ESRC research programme in partnership with Newcastle University. The Conference Chair will be Rachel O’Brien and contributors will include Duncan O’Leary, Chief Executive, New Futures Network, HMPPS and Stephen Fradley, Governor, HMP Ford.

Designed for participants and providers, the conference will include emerging evidence from the SERIF/ESRC research, opportunities to share experiences and insights and the national and local policy context.

Research can provide a focus about these issues. Practitioners are needed to make change happen

You are invited to join this interactive event - engaging with the ideas or experience of other delegates to help shape findings and recommendations for the future

Registration is free - but places are limited.
