Event Details

“Team Coaching is the next big step in the coaching profession” John Leary Joyce

“A simple search through web sites of organisations offering team coaching services is bewildering in its lack of consensus.” Prof David Clutterbuck

“The field of individual coaching has expanded over the last 30 years, …, but the field of coaching leadership teams has been relatively neglected” Peter Hawkins

Over the last few years, I’ve noticed a significant increase in ‘chatter’ on the subject of team coaching. Most of this is within the extended coaching community whilst, in contrast to this, client’s that I meet seldom, if ever, use the term. However, it is absolutely evident that the development of effective leadership teams, and not just individual leaders, is critical to the success of most organisations. In a VUCA world (volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous) the collective impact of key teams will surely only become even more important. So the means of developing and supporting teams needs to be clear, considered, and robust. Is the answer to this team coaching?

This session will provide an open opportunity to share perspectives and explore thinking about the concept of team coaching. Some of the questions we will discuss together include:

  • What is ‘team coaching’?
  • What makes it different to team facilitation or team building? Is it something distinctly new, or a rebranding of other team development approaches?
  • Is it the next big thing? And if so, for who?
  • What principles and methodologies might we employ when coaching teams? When?
  • What makes a good team coach? What does a good individual coach need to learn to be a good team coach? What should a team expect from a coach?

Our September event will be facilitated by Jerry Scott, who for many years fulfilled a variety of international leadership roles in world class multinationals such as Unilever, L’Oreal and Heinz. For the last 10 years he has supported leaders and leadership teams to develop their effectiveness and increase their impact. His experience crosses a diverse range of geographies and market sectors. He is a qualified coach and his approach to supporting teams is informed by the likes of Richard Hackman, Jon Katzenbach & Douglas Smith, and Peter Hawkins.

Note: A nominal charge of £5 will be collected on the door.
