About this Event
In association with the Durham Energy Institute, Student Energy Durham is pleased to announce the first debate of Epiphany Term, entitled 'Is there a future for fracking?'.
The debate will be followed by a drinks reception.
The debate will cover the advantages and disadvantages of fracking, how necessary fracking is for UK energy security, its impact on climate change and whether or not it has a long-term future.
The panel will include the following 4 speakers:
- Prof. Jon Gluyas: Executive Director of the Durham Energy Institute and Professor of Geoenergy, Carbon Capture and Storage at Durham University.
- Prof. Richard Davies: Founder and first Director of the Durham Energy Institute and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Engagement & Internationalisation) of Newcastle University. Project Lead at ReFINE, the leading international research consortium on fracking (http://www.refine.org.uk).
- Susan Wesley: Climate Change and Environmental Activist.
- Natascha Engel: Commissioner for Shale Gas. Acting as a direct communication link between local communities, the shale gas industry and regulators.
