Journalist Mark Silberstein will be in conversation with author Isabel del Rio, discussing her memoir A Woman Alone, which has just been published by Friends of Alice Publishing. The memoir is written in English with quotes and excerpts in Spanish, and includes a series of recollections, reflections, dreams and disappointments carving out a hopeful yet challenging future where the protagonist affirms her identity both as a woman and as a bilingual writer.
At the end of the interview, Isabel will be reading a few excerpts from the memoir, in both English and Spanish and there will be a Q & A.

Isabel del Rio is a British-Spanish fiction writer, poet and linguist. Born in Madrid, she has lived in London most of her life. She has published poetry and fiction in both English and Spanish. She is also an established literary translator, specialising in the translation of poetry. Her memoir A Woman Alone, written in English with excerpts and quotes in Spanish, was recently published this year. Her most recent poetry collection in English is Dolorem Ipsum, dedicated to the victims of the 2020 pandemic. Isabel regularly takes part in performance poetry, spoken word and literary events. Mark A. Silberstein is a freelance journalist who has worked on BBC World Service Radio programes such as Newsday and Focus on Africa, as well as a stint on Radio 4 and writing for the BBC Online website. He has also written pieces for the International Observatory of Human Rights (IOHR) website. He has a Journalism BA from City University and in 2020 he graduated from SOAS with an MSc in International Politics. He is originally from Cape Town, South Africa, and has been living in London for twenty one years.
